Veteran Services Officer – Wellbeing

RSL Qld provide much needed support to Defence Personnel, Veterans and their families and currently have an opportunity for an additional Veteran Services Officer with a focus on wellbeing to join the team.Reporting to the Wellbeing Coordinator, this role will perform some pension and claims support to veterans, however the focus of the role is to provide a wide range of welfare matters, including emotional, social and emergency support to veterans, often requiring visits to veterans in hospitals, aged care facilities, and those confined to their homes.Some specific duties include: Deliver programs such as Homelessness, Employment and Finance and accept referrals from the VSO network in accordance with set processesConduct home and hospital visits to veterans to ensure they receive emotional support, counselling or other assistance they needPrepare client support plans and work with clients on outcomes based approaches to their wellbeingMonitor and liaise with Health Care providers and DVA as required for the benefit of veteransWrite case notes and file notes of visits and interviews with veterans and their familiesIdentify program opportunities and assist in their development and implementationTo be successful in this position you will need:Qualifications, training or experience delivering support services (TIP Qualifications to level 2 an advantage) Extensive knowledge and understanding of the veteran community would be highly beneficialDemonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in working directly with veterans and their familiesProven ability in in-depth research and interpreting and applying complex legislationCurrent driver's licenseWe are looking for someone who is empathetic and can work in highly sensitive environments and situations. A background in a support role, with a high level of administration would be highly beneficial. To be successful in this position you will need:

  • Qualifications, training or experience delivering support services (TIP Qualifications to level 2 an advantage) 
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the veteran community would be highly beneficial
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills in working directly with veterans and their families
  • Proven ability in in-depth research and interpreting and applying complex legislation
  • Current driver's license
